Partner Organisations

The Royal Society of Victoria would like to acknowledge the following organisations who are collaborating in the Burke and Wills Commemoration Program:

State Library of Victoria

The Royal Society of Victoria transferred all of its documents and artefacts related to the Burke and Wills Expedition to the State Library, so the State Library now has the largest holding of Burke and Wills material. The State Library of Victoria is therefore the Royal Society of Victoria's major partner in the planning of the 150th Commemoration Program. The Royal Society of Victoria acknowledges the following contributions to the 150th Commemoration Program:

  • Supported by the Royal Society of Victoria, the State Library has been successful in obtaining grant funding for completing the digitisation of their collection of Burke and Wills documents
  • The Library has provided high-resolution images of Becker's paintings for inclusion in the book "The Science of Burke and Wills" and in other activities
  • The State Library is using its network to encourage all other libraries, state museums and community museums to put their Burke and Wills related items on display

The State Library has also set up its own extensive program.

Rotary International

On Sunday 6 December, Rotary District Governers held their annual luncheon in the Burke and Wills Hall at the Royal Society of Victoria. The lunch had a Burke and Wills 150th theme, with tables adorned with Burke and Wills placements and the guest speaker being Dr Peter Thorne, RSV Vice-President and Chair of the Burke and Wills Advisory Committee. His overview of the entire Commemoration Program engendered a great deal of interest

A number of local Rotary groups in Victoria have been invited to partner the Royal Society of Victoria in the organisation of the "Science along the Track" program, and to partner community groups and historical societies in the organisation of their commemorative events. TheseRotary Groups include Castlemaine, Essendon, Mia Mia, Bendigo and Swan Hill.

Hugh DT Williamson Foundation

The Williamson Foundation has been trialling a school science program called “Bug Blitz™” in Gippsland. The Royal Society of Victoria and the Williamson Foundation are currently building a partnership which would link an extension of their “Bug Blitz™” into central and northwestern Victoria with the Society's planned "Science along the Track". There is a great deal of synergy between the two programs and the both organisations see this as an opportunity to create a collaborative model which will last well beyond the Burke and Wills Commemoration.
