What you can make happen...

Supporters of the Burke and Wills 150th Commemoration Program will be able to derive satisfaction from having supported some or all of the following:

  • publication of The Science of Burke and Wills: a book analysing the hitherto unpublished scientific data gathered on the Burke and Wills Expedition
  • encouraging secondary students to pursue careers in science through the Young Science Ambassadors program
  • getting primary school students excited about science and the environment through the Bug Blitz™ program
  • publication of a book about the role of indigenous tribes in the Burke and Wills story
  • undertaking an environmental audit along the Burke and Wills route (the Across Australia Environmental Expedition)
  • building social capital in rural and regional communities through the organisation of commemoration activities in towns and cities along the track
  • the creation of new writing, art and music inspired by the heroic and tragic story
  • the re-enactment of key events such as the signing-up and the departure
  • getting new insights into how Burke and Wills met their deaths, through a mock coronial enquiry (did King really shoot Burke?)
