A day of commemorative activities was held on 28 August 2010 to mark the 150th Anniversary of Burke and Wills Camp 6 at Mia Mia. That was followed by a dinner in the evening, and there was also an art exhibition in the Mia Mia Hall open over the weekend.
Activities included a history tent, pub-in-a-tent with local beer and wine, bush poetry, billy tea and damper demonstrations, marshmallow toasting, camel rides, CFA BBQ, and a CWA tent. The weather was kind and the Mia Mia locals were outnumbered by the visitors enjoying the activites, food and wine. Read the news reports here.
The art exhibition was well worth a visit, with a range of works by both adult artists and children. There were also "diaries" of various of the explorers, written by children from local primary schools which made wonderful reading. Photos of the art are coming soon - watch this space.
And for the record, see the flyer that was printed for the occasion. |
